PR No.29 Speaker National Assembly Meets Members Of The APPG On Pakistan Islamabad: December 3, 2015

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan met members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Pakistan (APPG) at the UK Parliament on 2 December 2015. Rehman Chishti, MP, who is Chairman of the APPG on Pakistan, led the group, says a press release received here today from London.

The Speaker appreciated the efforts of the APPG on Pakistan for promoting the cordial relations between Pakistan and the UK. The discussions encompassed a wide range of issues pertaining to bilateral relations, regional situation, Kashmir issue, current situation in Pakistan and Parliamentary exchanges. He also briefed the parliamentarians about the progress on the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb which he stated would continue undeterred without interruption till its logical end.

The speaker also briefed the APPG on legislative developments that have taken place in the current Parliament, including legislation on protection of women, child rights, minorities and human rights in general.

The Speaker highlighted the recent reforms undertaken in the parliament including establishment of legislative council for facilitating drafting of private members bills, university courses on parliamentary work and internships for generating interest in parliamentary affairs among the youth. He also informed that the Pakistani Parliament would be the 2nd parliament in the world to go ‘green’ and become environment friendly.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that enhancing Parliament-to-Parliament relations were essential in creating understanding between the two countries and to bring them even closer. He extended invitation to the parliamentarians to visit Pakistan which they accepted with thanks.

Besides Rehman Chishti MP, the meeting was attended by Lord Hylton, Lord Purvis of Tweed, Lord Qurban Hussain, Ms. Naz Shah MP, Ms. Yasmin Qureshi MP and Ms. Alixe Buckerfield De-La-Roche, Advisor to Lord Richards.
