Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael on Tuesday paid a visit to central jail Faisalabad. Besides, District and session judge Abid Hussain Qureshi Bishop Joseph Arshad, Former MPA Joel Amir Sohutra, Father Nisar Barkat, Pastar Khalid Awan, Director General Human rights General Arshad Regional Director Punjab human rights, Lubna Masood were also present. On this occasion, district and session Judge, Mr. Qureshi ordered the release of 69 prisoners involved in petty crimes and those who were still in jail because they were unable to pay their penalties and fines.

Addressing the media outside the central jail after the release of prisoners in Faisalabad, the Minister Kamran Michael has said that under the program of Federal Ministry of Human Rights, it is decided to release those prisoners involved in petty crimes who are still in jails because they are unable to pay their fines/penalties. It is decided to pay their penalties from “Diat” fund, he added.

Senator Kamran Michael stated that Government has started the process to release the prisoners all over the country, accused of minor cases adding that this process was being started from Central Jail Faisalabad by releasing 69 prisoners involved in petty crimes.

He added that special training courses have been started to make them responsible and productive citizens.  He further said this year has also named as the “Year of Mercy” therefore this initiative is being taken to award the fundamental right of freedom to these prisoners. He said a policy is also being designed to reduce the number of prisoners in jails to ensure their better accommodation.

Kamran Michael; Minister of Human Rights also inspected different sections of jail and met with the prisoners to inquire about their issues. He assured them of taking necessary action to resolve their problems.
