A meeting was held between First Lady Begum Mahmooda Mamnoon Hussain and First Lady of Republic of Turkey Ms. Emine Erdogan here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad in which matters of mutual interest were discussed. First lady Begum Mahmooda Mamnoon Hussain said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy exemplary ties and have always stood by each other in difficult hour. She stated that Pakistan and Turkey have commonality of views on many issues and support each other at international fora. First Lady of Pakistan commended the services and assistance of Turkish First Lady for the flood-stricken people of Pakistan. She apprised the visiting dignitary that significant work for cancer control is being done in Pakistan after the Istanbul Declaration of Special Session on First Ladies’ Leadership on Cancer Control.

Begum Mahmooda Mamnoon Hussain said that efforts of Ms. Emine Erdogan for educating girls, reducing negative effects of social stratification and struggle against child labour are a source of inspiration for Muslim women. She further said that the Government of Pakistan has also taken many measures for the welfare of women and they are fully participating in all walks of life. On the occasion, First Lady of Republic of Turkey said that she considers Pakistan her second home.
