PR No.327 Islamabad

APTMA has demanded duty free cotton for import purposes but the Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Mr. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has declined this demand conditionally, whereby no duty free cotton import will be permitted until and unless all the locally produced cotton is sold completely. We are expecting much better production of cotton quantity than previous year. We are also looking forward of having rupees three thousand plus rate for cotton in international market.

We are fully aware of problems of small cotton growing farmers and through media we humbly request that our message may be communicated in a befitting manner nationwide to all farmers especially cotton growers. Safeguarding the interests of Pakistani cotton growers and overall farmers is included in the priorities of the Government of Pakistan.

While answering a question the Minister for National Food Security & Research Mr. Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan replied that we have surplus wheat, rice and other pulses. We will be positively supporting and fulfilling any international demand of wheat export if properly and officially communicated to us. He also informed the media that agricultural research is improving day by day. We hope to develop fully functional research institutions in due course of time.

As agro based industries are also including in CPEC, therefore, our ministry is being kept on board regarding every concerned and relevant sector. Similarly as the CPEC is for the progress and development of all Pakistan without any discrimination, therefore, all the information and decisions taken in any relevant area is duly communicated to the provinces.
