Unity among the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora was imperative to highlight the Kashmir cause and earn unequivocal support from the European institutions and policy makers. These views were expressed by the speakers at an event organized by the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir on the Black Day. October 27th is observed as Black Day to mark the landing of Indian forces of occupation in Jammu and Kashmir, says a press release received here today from Brussels.
Representatives from all walks of life expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir. Prominent among the speakers were Chairman Kashmir Council EU, Ali Raza Syed, Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, European Union and Luxembourg Mrs. Naghmana A. Hashmi, Ambassador Tariq Osman Hyder, Dr. Manzoor Zahoor Elahi Member Parliament (Brussels), Ms. Shazia Manzoor Councilor and Ms. Ramisha Khan. Messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read by Economic Minister Mr. Omar Hameed and Second Secretary Ms. Sarah Ijaz respectively. One minute silence was observed to pay tributes to the martyrs of Kashmir and those of recent attacks on Police Academy Quetta. Fateha was also offered for them.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed commended Pakistan’s continued moral support on the principled stand of Kashmiris for their right to self- determination. He called upon Pakistani diaspora living in Belgium to use their influence to draw attention of their elected representatives in the parliament towards the much desired role of European Union and Belgian government for the peaceful solution of Kashmir issue.
He asserted that immediate attention was needed to check on-going human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir, which have been documented by several human rights organizations. Syed further said that the movement of Kashmiri people has gained such a momentum that it couldn’t be suppressed by the brutal use of force by the Indians. He added that Kashmir was now resonating with the slogan ‘now or never’.
Ambassador Mrs. Naghmana A. Hashmi stressed for unity among Pakistani diaspora, stating that unequivocal commitment to Kashmir cause was needed to harness international support to resolve the conflict according to the resolutions of United Nations.
“The biggest contribution that Pakistani community could make at this time was to bring into the notice of their respective elected representatives the unprecedented scale of human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir and point of view of the people of Kashmir”, she added.
Dr. Manzoor Elahi pointed out that in a society where citizens were bound by law to protect fellow beings from victimization, support of people of Kashmir was justified and needed attention of policy makers. He assured that he would continue to bring into the notice at highest possible level, atrocities being committed by Indian forces of occupation on innocent Kashmiri freedom fighters.
Ramisha Khan a young student of KU Leuven narrated the story of young Kashmiri girl highlighting the horrific state of affairs being suffered by many young people particularly women in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
