PR No.285 “INDC’S STUDY HAS BEEN FINALIZED BY STEERING COMMITTEE” Islamabad

Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Climate Change Zahid Hamid chaired the meeting and said to the INDC committee, “to review the calculations, ratios, tables included in the INDC report to make it error free”.

Federal Secretary for Ministry of Climate Change Syed Abu Ahmed Akif said, “Without INDC report the Paris Agreement is meaningless. So, it is very important to submit the INDC document by this week without any further delay.”

He further said, “The financial support will be taken as a grant rather than as a loan; and we will facilitate climate change related  project/programme preparation for international climate finance, technology development & transfer, and capacity building  at national and provincial  levels.”

Director General (Environment) for Ministry of Climate Change Irfan Tariq gave an overview of the INDC context and said, “Pakistan has  to submit INDC report which explains the estimated carbon emissions in coming years and its abatement cost, in addition to the adaption cost”.

He also explained that, “187 countries have already  submitted their INDC reports so it is very important for us to submit our report as soon as possible.”

Dr Zafar Qadir (lead author of INDC), S.M. Nasir (IGF, MOCC), Malik Ammar (Ministry of Finance), M. Aurangzeb Durrani (Ministry of Water and Power, Syed Tauqeer Hussain (Joint Secretary Development, Ministry of Industries ), Muhammad Imran Khan (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and many others also participated in this meeting.
