PR No. 251 MINISTER OF STATE ENGR MUHAMMAD BALIGH UR REHMAN ALONG WITH THE FEDERAL MINISTER OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT PROF AHSAN IQBAL ATTENDED THE 7TH ROOTS YOUTH MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY METROPOLITAN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY, AS CHIEF GUESTS TODAY Islamabad: September 29, 2016

I am glad to be here amongst all you young people at RYMUN today, said the State Minister. I would like to congratulate Mr. Walid Mushtaq and his team for making a difference in the educational sector by introducing innovative paradigms in the education spectrum and creating awareness among the students amount Global issues, modern technologies and advancements in academia through events such as the Roots Youth Model United Nations.

Quoting the examples of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Salhuddin Ayubi, Minister of State showed confidence in the youth of Pakistan. He said that our youth is our future leaders, who would impact the global community through their strategic decisions in the future. Negotiating peace in the midst of a crisis, finding effective solutions to solve problems and encouraging cooperation amongst hostile countries would be in their hands soon, emphasized the minister. He further added that they need to be able to formulate policies that will be sustainable even in the long term.

We live in a world that is being re-ordered in every aspect-politically, economically, security-wise, business-wise, socially, technologically, and ecologically, stated the Minister. And in order to raise future leaders we must revamp our curriculum, especially curriculum of schools. Our government is fully committed to provide better quality education, and we are doing our best to develop a minimum national curriculum for the country, in which study of democracy, politics and governance will be included as important components. Talking further about the progress in education, Minister of State thanked Prof. Ahsan Iqbal for increasing the funding of tertiary education in Pakistan. He said that things are improving and we are on a right path, by adopting Vision 2025 we have found a right direction towards prosperity.

In order to find an influential position in the world one needs to be in full command, stressed the minister. How will you fare? What tools will you use to find a place for Pakistan in the challenging future? It will depend on your outlook-and it must be one of optimism. Be well informed, but be positive as you view the new would unfolding before your eyes. At this Model UN, think positively and without prejudice as you formulate policies for other countries. Think like experts and act like pioneers and innovators. The world you are going to inherit is the one that you will create. Minister of State said that it takes immense effort for a nation to build an army of illuminated and enlightened youth and this is the crux of what we seek today to strengthen Pakistan.

I feel honored to be here today to witness such an enlightening ceremony where the Nation’s young treasure shall be displaying most mesmerizing performances and outstanding debates in this MUN, said the Minister.  He further added that the real test of education is not merely the passing of examinations and securing a career. It is much more than that. As the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said while addressing the youth: “You must concentrate on gaining knowledge and education. It is your foremost responsibility. Political awareness of the era is also part of your education. You must be aware of international events and environment. Education is a matter of life and death for our country.”

In the end, Minister of State congratulated the team of Roots International for arranging such an interesting conference and wished students good luck.

Federal Minister for planning and development also shared his views with the audience and encouraged students to participate in such conferences more often, not only in Pakistan but in abroad as well.
