PR No.32 AHSAN IQBAL MEETS DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER BELARUS Islamabad

Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko called on Federal Minister Planning, Development & Reform Ahsan Iqbal today here in Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform. The meeting was held in a warm and cordial environment. Various issues pertaining to mutual interests, cooperation and bilateral relations were discussed.

They exchanged views on matters related to bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and education fields. They agreed to strengthen the bilateral ties through enhanced cooperation in these areas.

On this occasion, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan would welcome Belarus cooperation in energy, industrial cooperation, education and technological areas. He said that Pakistan can benefit from the expertise of Belarus in agro-based industry.  Minister maintained that Belarus can also assist Pakistan in vocational and technical trainings of the young population. Federal Minister said that Pakistan and Belarus could also explore opportunities in housing sector and skilled labour.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan and Belarus have entered in a new phase of relations and mutual trade and economic partnership need to increase. He added that government believes in converting geo- strategic relations into geo- economic and CPEC is an example of this. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is flag ship project between Pakistan and China and it will help to develop infrastructure, energy and industrial cooperation. He said in first phase of CPEC major amount of investment is going into energy sector and this would help to add 10,000 MW electricity in national grid by 2018 while additional 20,000 MW would be added by 2030.
