PR No. 153 FEDERAL MINISTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS MR. MUMTAZ AHMED TARAR SPEAKING AT 2ND ASEM CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL AGEING AND HUMAN RIGHTS OF OLDER PERSONS Islamabad: 21th September 2017

Federal Minister for Human Rights Mr. Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar gave congratulatory remarks and owed special thanks to H.E Mr. Leenak-Yon, Prime Minister of the Republic Korea for his personal commitment and patronage of this very important subject. He expressed the delightful feelings on the invitation by the Government of the Republic of Korea and Secretariat of the Asia-Europe Meeting. Mr. Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar attended the 2^nd ASEM Conference on 19-21 September, 2017 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, which have been organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

He addressed that Pakistan has high value, respect and dignity for senior citizens. He stated that the guiding principle for the promotion and protection of senior citizens and their basic fundamental rights, including equality, principles of non-discrimination and to take special measures, to ensure their protection were embedded in the provisions of the Constitution of Pakistan.

He emphasized that sharing information on policies to respond to population ageing and cooperation of International Community for Human Rights of senior citizens would benefit in larger perspective. He believed that Pakistan played a vital role in realizing the dream of making a World where human rights of senior citizens were fully promoted and protected.

He discussed in detail the problems, remedies, resolutions, strategies, programs and economic needs of older persons. He further explained the performance of Federal and Provincial Governments’ efforts, packages, educational measures, security measures, legislation and different programs to highlight the needs of senior citizens.

He mentioned that the measures taken by the Government of Pakistan demonstrated the strong commitment to protect, promote and empower older persons and the commitments under the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and Sustainable Development Goals.

In his concluding remarks Federal Minister thanked the government of the Republic of Korea and ASEM Secretariat for giving a warm welcome and providing great hospitality.
