PR No. 157 COURTESY CALL ON THE SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRIME MINISTER ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS BY MR. TARIK AHSAN, HIGH COMMISSIONER OF BANGLADESH Islamabad

The newly appointed High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Pakistan, Mr. Tarik Ahsan paid a courtesy call on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi today.  Their discussions covered all aspects of bilateral relations and regional developments.

 

The SAPM underlined the importance Pakistan attaches to its relations with Bangladesh and hoped that during the tenure of the High Commissioner, the relations would further strengthen.  He highlighted that there is a need to overcome current challenges in the bilateral relations and move forward in accordance with the spirit of Tripartite Agreement of April 1974.

 

Highlighting the high-level political exchanges, the SAPM mentioned the meeting of the two Prime Ministers on the sidelines of SAARC Summit in Kathmandu in November 2014, which provided them with an opportunity to review the existing state of bilateral relations and to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

 

He also highlighted that Pakistan is looking forward to the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Pakistan for the SAARC Summit in November this year.  Such high level contacts will pave the way for further strengthening of bilateral relations, he stressed.

 

The SAPM assured the High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh of the full cooperation and assistance by the Government of Pakistan to him in his efforts to enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries.

 

The High Commissioner underscored the importance that Bangladesh attaches to Pakistan and stated that he would endeavor to build on the commonalities between the two countries to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
