The 70th Independence Day of Pakistan (on 14 August 2016) was celebrated at Embassy of Pakistan in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). In a simple and dignified ceremony held at the Chancery, Pakistani flag was hoisted by the Ambassador at the tune of national anthem. Members of Pakistani community living in Ashgabat attended the ceremony. Popular Pakistani national songs were played out during the ceremony, says a Press Release received from Ashgabat here today.

The Ambassador read out the Special messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the audience on this occasion.

The Ambassador welcomed the members of Pakistani community and thanked them for their participation. In his remarks, he highlighted the significance of the day. He stated that 69 years ago the Muslims of sub-continent got an independent country where they could live in accordance with their own faith. He lauded the sacrifices and struggle made by our forefathers under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e Azam to achieve a separate homeland for us. He briefed the audience about the sacrifices being made by Armed forces and Pakistani citizen in the fight against terror and the success of operation “Zarb-e-Azb”, against extremists and terrorist. He also highlighted the achievements of present democratic Government towards economic progress and development of the country. The Ambassador called upon the members of Pakistani community to play a meaningful role in promoting Pakistan’s better image in Turkmenistan.

 

In memory of those who got killed in Quetta terrorist attack one minute silence was observed during the ceremony.

 

Refreshments were served to the participants. A large cake displaying the Pakistan Flag was got cut by the children, who were quizzed about Pakistan and given prizes.
