PR No. 127 PAKISTAN INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATED IN TEHRAN Islamabad

An impressive ceremony was held at the Embassy Residence this morning to mark Pakistan Independence Day. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of flag by Ambassador Asif Ali Khan Durrani to the accompaniment of national anthem, says a press release received here today from Tehran, Iran.

The messages of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were read out. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador felicitated members of the Pakistan community on the eve of Pakistan Independence Day and paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Pakistan movement who laid down their lives for the creation of a separate homeland. He said Pakistan was created to enable the Muslims of South Asia to lead their lives according to their religious, social, political and cultural aspirations. Referring to anti-terrorism campaign, the Ambassador said that Pakistan has conducted an extensive counter-terrorism operation, Zarb e Azb, to root out terrorism at a huge cost both in terms of lives sacrificed and resources invested. The operation has brought positive results and will contribute to regional stability.

On Pakistan Iran relations the Ambassador said that Pakistan and Iran share over six decades of fraternal relations which have grown stronger over the years. These bonds of friendship and brotherhood, based on commonality of interests, shared traditions, common faith and Islamic heritage are destined to grow stronger in the years ahead to the mutual benefit of our people. Hafiz, Saeed, Rumi and Iqbal are household names in Pakistan and Iran. Pakistan and Iran Share common perception on international and regional issues and closely cooperate in various world fora. Pakistan and Iran understand and appreciate each other’s position on different regional and international issues.

The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by a number of Iranian Scholars and Journalists as well as members of Pakistani community, officials of the Mission, ECO Secretariat, students and teachers of the Pakistan International School and College, Tehran. A visiting delegation of FPCCI and ECO-CCI led by the President Mr. Abdul Rouf Alam, also participated.
