President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasized that the standard of medical education in the country needs to be improved to produce professionally competent doctors to provide efficient healthcare services to the needy.

The President said this while talking to Vice Chancellor National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) Lt. Gen. Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday.

Congratulating Lt. Gen. Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed on his appointment as Vice Chancellor NUMS, the President hoped that NUMS will make further strides in the field of medical education under his supervision. The President said that medicine is a noble profession and its practitioners should discharge their responsibilities as a sacred duty.

The President said that in addition to the medical services being provided by public sector hospitals, the private sector also needs to complement government’s efforts in providing health services to the public. While appreciating that some hospitals and medical colleges in the private sector are delivering quality services, President Mamnoon Hussain urged upon the need to establish more nursing hospitals for provision of healthcare facilities and overcoming the shortage of qualified nursing staff in the country.

Lt. Gen. Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed briefed the President about matters pertaining to NUMS and plans to fully utilize the existing opportunities in order to provide medical services in a professional and efficient manner.
