PR No. 175 PRESIDENT MAMNOON HUSSAIN AND PRESIDENT OF TAJIKISTAN AGREE TO ENHANCE BILATERAL TIES Islamabad: June 23, 2016

President Mamnoon Hussain met Mr. Emomali Rahmon President of Tajikistan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tashkent today.

The two Presidents exchanged views on the bilateral relations and also discussed important regional issues. They expressed satisfaction at the steady growth of the Pakistan-Tajik bilateral relations. President Mamnoon Hussain highlighted the importance Pakistan accorded to its relations with Tajikistan. He thanked President Rahmon for Tajikistan’s commitment to the CASA-1000 project and referred to it as a milestone in promoting regional connectivity.  He stated that the excellent bilateral relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan should be translated to stronger economic and trade relations. The two leaders reiterated their resolve to achieve the bilateral trade target of US dollars five hundred million.

The two leaders emphasized the need to further strengthen cooperation against threats of extremism and terrorism, cross-border organized crime, drugs and human trafficking and other threats to regional and global security.

President Rahmon enquired about the health of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and conveyed prayers and best wishes on behalf of people of Tajikistan for his early recovery. President Mamnoon Hussain thanked President Rahmon for his warm sentiments.
