Managing Director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh has said that voluntary blood donation remains vital for healthcare and every blood donor is a hero of the nation. He was talking to the media after inaugurating Blood Collection Van for Pakistan Thalassemia Centre, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. He said that World Blood Donor Day emphasizes thanking of blood donors who save lives every day through their blood donations and inspires more people to donate blood voluntarily and regularly to save the precious lives. MD PBM told that Pakistan Thalassemia Centre is dedicated to serve thalassemia patients of all over the country including AJK, Gilgit Baltistan and FATA, and within one year, more than 500 poor thalassmia patients have been provided excellent clinical and compassionate care free of charge. He said that PBM arranges blood camps in public places in order to cope with the growing need of blood for Thalassemia patients under treatment at Pakistan Thalassemia Centre. The blood collection van is valuable addition in the existing medical facilities for the poor thalassemics. This van will play an imperative role for blood collection as well as awareness campaign to prevent and eradicate the thalassemia disease. On the occasion, MD PBM also appealed general public to donate their blood with the note that the blood donation is the most precious gift of life for Thallasemia patients because their lives are dependent on regular blood transfusions.
