Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting here on Sunday to review the budget proposals regarding development of agriculture sector in the country.
The meeting discussed various measures aimed at supporting the farming community, including steps facilitating provision of various inputs to the farmers with a view to enhance agricultural output. The meeting also had a detailed review of provision of agriculture credit during the current fiscal year and discussed ways and means to enhance farmers access to institutions providing such credit.
Finance Minister on the occasion said that the government has taken a serious view of the low cotton crop and would ensure measures to prevent such untoward happenings in future. He said that agriculture was backbone of the national economy and would always be extended due importance. The Minister emphasized close coordination between provincial and federal departments and organizations concerned to streamline policies and measures for growth of agriculture sector.
Senior officials of the Ministries of Finance and National Food Security attended the meeting.
