PR No. 5 PAKISTAN CONSIDERS JAPAN IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT PARTNER: AHSAN IQBAL Islamabad: June 01, 2016

Federal Minister Planning, Development & Reform Ahsan Iqbal today said that Pakistan considers Japan an important development partner and looks forward to expand bilateral cooperation in various sectors. Minister stated this while talking to Japanese Ambassador in Pakistan Mr. Takashi Kurai, who called on him at Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform.

Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest particularly in economic area and desired to enhance it in the coming years. Japanese Ambassador appreciated the economic recovery Pakistan made in the last three years.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan and Japan have long history of cooperation and noted that there is room to further this cooperation. He said that Pakistan desires the Japanese assistance in Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, which is critical to resolve the grave transportation problem in the mega city. He said that Pakistan also looks forward to Japanese cooperation in infrastructure, energy particularly in power transmission field, in which Japan has high efficiency. He said that Japan and Pakistan can also cooperate in agro-based industry.
