PR No. 241 ICIJ ADMITS ERROR, REMOVES NAME OF PM NAWAZ SHARIF Islamabad: April 27, 2016

A Spokesman of the Government of Pakistan has said that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has admitted that it had erroneously included the name of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif while publishing details of persons who control Off-Shore Companies based on documents leaked from Law Firm Mossack Foneesea.

The issue of Panama Papers became a subject of debate in Pakistan as the name of Prime Minister was wrongly included by the ICIJ and was flashed by the media.

The ICIJ on its website has now acknowledged the error and removed all data from its Website carrying the name of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawas Sharif as the original Panama Papers never contained his name.

The admission of mistake by ICIJ is a clear vindication of the stand of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif  that he has nothing to do with any Off-Shore Companies.

The clarification issued by ICIJ should now put to rest all accusations made on the person of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as they are patently wrong baseless.
