PR No. 224 PM CHAIRS MEETING TO REVIEW PROGRESS ON ENERGY PROJECTS Islamabad: April 26, 2016

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to review the progress on Power projects at PM House today.

Minister for Finance Mr. Ishaq Dar, Minster for Petroleum and Natural Resource Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbassi and other senior officials were present during the meeting.

Secretary Water Power briefed the meeting about Neelum Jhelum and other ongoing power projects in country. The meeting also reviewed issues related to transmission lines and load management.

The Prime Minster was briefed that government’s roadmap of energy power projects is on track, and within less than two years more than 10,000 MW of electricity would be added in the national grid. The meeting was informed that on the directions of the PM the projects would not only be completed within the stipulated time but their implementation has also been done in complete transparent manner.

The Prime Minister stated that from 1999 to 2013 zero investment was made in the energy sector of Pakistan due which the exceeding demand of electricity resulted in load shedding up to eighteen hours a day. He added that PML-N government has invested billions in the energy projects and by the end of the tenure not only load shedding will be curtailed but also cheap electricity will be made available to the consumers.

The Prime Minister said that completion of energy projects will also give boost economy of Pakistan and will lead to generation of employment and increased national output.
