President Mamnoon Hussain has said that intellectuals and writers play an important role in identifying and addressing various social ills afflicting a society besides contributing in its intellectual and moral growth.

The President said this while hosting a dinner for intellectuals, writers and academicians at Aiwan-e-Sadr who attended the 7th National Book Day Festival in Islamabad. Advisor to Prime Minister on National History & Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui was also present on the occasion.

The President noted with appreciation that Pakistani writers and their work were gaining international recognition and assured that the government would continue supporting their endeavours. The President commended National Book Foundation for successfully organizing the 7th National Book Day Festival and on inviting a galaxy of eminent writers, poets and academicians to highlight the great importance of book reading. The President called for holding such healthy activities in future to highlight the significance of promoting culture of book reading and inspiring intellectual pursuits.
