PR No. 86 NO ‘NO GO AREA’ FOR BISP POVERTY SURVEY THIS TIME: MARVI Islamabad

Minister of State and Chairperson BISP MNA Marvi Memon visited Mohmand Agency and Charsada today in continuation of her efforts to sensitize masses on the new poverty survey of BISP.

The last poverty survey conducted in 2010 under previous government did not cover several areas of FATA including North Waziristan, South Waziristan and some hard areas of other tribal agencies as well. Out of 5.2 million BISP beneficiaries, 157633 belong to FATA. BISP, under the dynamic leadership of Chairperson Ms. Marvi Memon, is committed to update National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) that covers each and every inch of the country whether it is volatile FATA or far flung Turbat.

The pilot phase of the new survey is starting from middle of this year in 15 districts and Mohmand Agency. Charsada is also part of the pilot phase of the resurvey.

Chairperson BISP visited the areas of Ghalanai and Malik Wazir Kalay in Mohmand Agency and villages of Nissata and Prang in Charsada and interacted with BISP beneficiaries. She also held meetings with Political Agent of Mohmand Agency and with councilors in district Nazim office of Charsada.

During her address to the notables, concerned government office bearers and beneficiaries of Mohmand Agency, Chairperson BISP said that FATA being the frontline region fighting against extremism deserves special attention of the government. Financial inclusion and human development of FATA can only make us win our war against terrorism and BISP will ensure that there is no ‘no go area’ for new poverty survey this time. She added that as per the direction of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, every deserving woman of FATA would be part of the updated NSER giving them empowerment, dignity and meaning of life.

During her meeting with political agent of Mohmand Agency, Chairperson BISP directed to prepare detailed account of villages in the agency for effective identification of the poor. She added that the model of Mohmand Agency would be replicated in the rest of tribal agencies. PA Mohmand Agency assured full support of the administration in the process of the resurvey.

During her interaction with the elected representatives of local bodies, notables and beneficiaries in Charsada, Chairperson BISP reiterated her determination of outreaching the deserving families in the resurvey as the present government’s resolve is to work for the welfare of the downtrodden population.
