PR No. 171 ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER CALLS ON PM Islamabad, April 21, 2016

H.E Mr Paolo Gentiloni, Foregin Minister of Italy called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House today.

 

Welcoming the Italian Foreign Minister, the Prime Minister said that despite numerous inherited challenges, the consolidated efforts of his government have tremendously improved the state of affairs in all major sectors of the country. By the grace of God Almighty., Pakistan is marching on its way to achieve long term economic stability and fully exploiting its immense potentials that will certainly usher the country into peace and prosperity for its people and the region and the world at large, said the Prime Minister.

 

We are pursuing a robust national policy to overcome the energy issues confronting our people and the country, which has already yielded very positive results. The positive economic indicators reflect our efforts for revival of our economy, added the Prime Minister.

 

Our government adopted a zero-tolerance strategy against terrorism and the ongoing operation Zar-i-Azb has successfully dismantled the terrorists’ networks and their safe havens. The operation against criminals and extortionists in Karachi has resulted in the return of peace in the city. The improved law and order situation and the business-friendly environment have restored the confidence of investors; encouraging them to invest in Pakistan, further said the Prime Minister.

 

Offering all possible support, Mr Paolo Gentiloni appreciated the Prime Minister for leading a war against the extremist ideology in Pakistan. Your government’s reach out to neighbours and making efforts for restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan are highly appreciable. Considering the huge potential, the present volume of bilateral trade between Italy and Pakistan of $ 1 billion needs to be significantly enhanced, said the Foreign Minister.

 

The Italian Foreign Minister lauded the Prime Minister’s progressive reforms agenda and the legislative and administrative measures being undertaken for protection and empowerment of minorities and women. He also briefed the Prime Minister on the upcoming visit of Italian Prime Minister to Pakistan.

 

The meeting was attended by Mr Stefano Pontecorvo, Italian Ambassador in Pakistan, Mr Tariq Fatemi, SAPM nad other senior officials of the government.
