PR No. 70 Islamabad

Minister of State Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman chaired the meeting regarding the program 1001 Nights: A language and Literacy Program by Mehnaz Aziz and children Global Network today.

Ms Mehnaz and her team gave a presentation on the program to the Minister of State. They requested the minister to have it reviewed by the National Curriculum Council in upcoming meeting to further scale it up to get it implemented in all over Pakistan.

Basic purpose of the program is it to inculcate the civic sense in the children. Program includes TV shows, comics, and academic curriculum. Children are given one hour class on civic sense by using this material of tales of 1001 nights. Children would be engaged in class room as well as home activities with the help of this program. TV show has already been screened on PTV and Geo TV Networks along with the programs in the countries like Jordan, Syria, Morocco and Iraq in 2012.

Global Network team told the minister that this program has already been reviewed by FDE (federal directorate of education) in 2012 and they have signed an MOU with CADD for ICT schools already. They tested this program in 20 schools of ICT, and 10 schools of Punjab in 2014. And the results were remarkable. It helped the children to tolerate each other with better sense of responsibility, improved their critical thinking and civic sense. The program was implemented in grades 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Minister of State highly appreciated the concept of this program and assured the global network team that it will be reviewed by the curriculum council and we would scale it up by improving it further. I always emphasis on character building more than just getting plain education in schools, said the Minister. If our civic sense and tolerance level as a nation can be improver/enhanced through such programs then we should support it whole heartedly. He further added that it’s just not tolerating each other what matters, but understanding each others’ point of view is very essential in this global age.

Meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary Dr. Allah Bakhsh Malik, Joint Education Advisor Rafiq Tahir, and Director General Education Talat.
