President Mamnoon Hussain said that democracy is strengthening in Pakistan and the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary are working harmoniously. The President expressed satisfaction that the country is moving in the right direction and with the passage of time democracy will grow further.

President Mamnoon said this while talking to Mr. Akbar Khan, Secretary General, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Friday.

The President said that democracy and good governance are essential for development and harmony in the country adding that the Government attaches great importance to ensuring human rights for all segments of society. He said that the Government is striving to empower the women to enable them in playing their due role in the progress and prosperity of the country.

President Mamnoon further said that special attention is being paid by the Government to ensure equal rights for the minority communities in accordance with Quaid-e-Azam’s empathic pronouncement that all communities enjoy equal rights as Pakistanis.

The President stated that Pakistan is committed in fighting terrorism and the ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ Operation has been successful in restoring peace in the country and expressed the resolve that this operation will continue till elimination of the last terrorist. President Mamnoon said that as a result of this operation, the situation is returning to normalcy and observed that many foreign delegates and entrepreneurs are now visiting Pakistan.

The President called upon investors from Commonwealth countries to take advantage of attractive investment policies in Pakistan by investing in the energy, infrastructure and other sectors. President Mamnoon stressed the need for more exchange of delegations amongst Commonwealth countries in the education field in order to benefit from each other’s expertise and experiences.

The President stated that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will usher in a new era of prosperity not only in Pakistan but also the whole region and improve connectivity between regional countries for mutual benefit.

The President congratulated Mr. Akbar Khan on assuming the office of 7thSecretary General of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and hoped that he would be instrumental in strengthening Pakistan’s cooperative partnership with his organisation in the spheres of parliamentary support programs and promoting inter-parliamentary relations amongst the Commonwealth member Parliaments. President Mamnoon hoped that the visiting Commonwealth Secretary General will have a productive and comfortable stay in Pakistan.

Mr. Akbar Khan, Secretary General CPA said that Pakistan is one of the first countries he is visiting after assuming office of the Secretary General and he has come here to express his solidarity with the people of Pakistan and to witness the progress attained by the country. The Secretary General said that the intra-commonwealth trade volume will be around $1 trillion by 2020 and urged Pakistani businessmen and traders to avail vast opportunities to further boost Pakistan’s economy.
