President Mamnoon Hussain said on Thursday that Pakistan would emerge as the most important country in the region following completion of landmark project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
While addressing delegations of parliamentarians of South Punjab, farmers and Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) at the local circuit house, the President said that the CPEC would not only benefit China and Pakistan but also other countries of the region. Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, and Federal Minister for national food security and research Sikandar Hayat Bosan were also present.
Mamnoon Hussain said that CPEC would usher in a new era of prosperity in the country as it would give much needed boost to trade activities. The President said that Central Asian states were also pondering over ways to link their countries with CPEC to boost trade activities. He said that CPEC was a 3400 kilometre long route from Kashghar to Gwadar and Karachi and some eight to nine power projects were also being undertaken under the initiative.
He said that all power generation projects would be completed by 2018 and loadshedding would be greatly minimized by that time. He said that all the mega projects of national importance particularly CPEC would be completed at all cost and no hurdle would be tolerated in their way. He said that country was moving in the right direction and national economic indicators were showing a gradual and steady improvement in national economy.
President Mamnoon Hussain said that efforts of the government and armed forces against terrorism were laudable. He added that overall law and order situation has improved by remarkably while people now feel themselves safe in in almost all parts of FATA. He said that Pakistan was rich in natural resources and human capital adding that it was a Pakistani namely Saeed Ahmad who had developed Singapore port and our eminent economist’s five year plan was instrumental in economic development of South Korea.
The President said that there was a time when South Korea’s export earnings were US$400 million and ours were US$800 million. But today, South Korea’s export earnings were touching US$600 billion, he added. The president urged the industrialist and traders’ community to also focus on novelty and traditional items that highlights our heritage and added that not only would it boost export but also promote tourism to the country.
The President also suggested to form a forum for liaison between farmers and industrialists. He said that government was giving due attention to demands of industrialists regarding establishment of a centre of excellence in Multan, an export display centre and cold storage. He also urged the traders and industrialists community to mould their business practices in accordance with the modern trends so that they can successfuly compete in the international trade. He urged them to send solid proposals so that their opinion can be considered in making of comprehensive national economic policy. He said that prudent policies of the government were registering gradual successes against power crisis and the same would benefit the industrial sector in a big way.
He said that government was pursuing the national action plan seriously and concrete steps taken by the government have improved law and order situation to a great extent.
