PR No.71 Canadian High Commissioner To Pakistan Calls On The Prime Minister Islamabad: April 7, 2016

Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan H.E. Ms. Heather Cruden called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House today.

Welcoming the High Commissioner, the Prime Minister said that relations between Pakistan and Canada are based on strong foundation of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation. Pakistan values its relations with Canada as partners in the common endeavour to promote global peace and stability, and the fight against terrorism, the Prime Minister stated. There is a need to continue working closely to sustain and build on the useful linkages in the context of regional security, political and economic fields as well as greater people to people contact, to broaden and deepen the existing bilateral ties between the two countries, underscored the Prime Minister.

Highlighting Pakistan’s unmatched sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan regards all regional and international initiatives to combat militancy, extremism and terrorism as essential.  Appreciating Canada’s support in Pakistan’s energy and development projects, the Prime Minister said that considerable potential for cooperation in the field of defence, particularly in the areas of defence production and procurement, needs to be explored.

Ms. Heather Cruden lauded various initiatives taken by the present government under the leadership of the Prime Minister for eliminating terrorism and extremist mindset from the country, revival of economy, and steps for women empowerment in the country. The Canadian High Commissioner said that Pakistan is satisfactorily marching on development and progressive path due to the initiatives of the present government. Acknowledging Prime Minister’s vision of “comprehensive and enduring partnership” with Afghanistan, the Canadian High Commissioner said that it would contribute to the security and prosperity of Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as reinforcing efforts for peace and development in the region.

The meeting was also attended by SAPM Mr. Tariq Fatemi.
