An MoU signing ceremony took place between the Ministry of Science & Technology and the State Engineering Corporation (SEC). Under this  MoU, strong linkages between the organizations working under the aegis of Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) and State Engineering Corporation (SEC) will be developed. This MoU will help in establishing links between National Research Organizations and leading Engineering Organizations. Ceremony was jointly presided by the Federal Minister for Science & Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain and Minister for Industries & Production Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi.

The key objective of the MOU is to jointly transform research achievements of M/o S&T research organizations and SEC into marketable products and make efforts for accelerating pace of industrialization in the country. The activities pertaining to the joint ventures will be initiated, executed and monitored through a joint working group, having representation of MoST and SEC. “This will definitely pave the way for SEC with help of MoST to take technological and industrial development to next level,” said Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Federal Minister for Industries & Production. He appreciated the valuable views and determinationof Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science & Technology on this occasion.  He also showed great interest in making this MoU practical and effective and vowed to bring the fruits of this joint collaboration of the two important Government Ministries to the industries and the public as soonas possible.

Under the signed MoU, MoST will provide technical assistance to SEC in modernization of their installations/ facilities and up-gradation/ improvement of their capabilities so as to manufacture new products conforming to market demand. “Both the Ministries will work together to establish a working plan that will be executed in true spirit under this MoU. Thus bringing a new prospect to Technological advancement in Pakistan,” said the Federal Minister for Science & Technology while appreciating the mutual efforts of both the Ministries in this regard. He was very optimistic in the expected out comes of this joint venture as commercialization of laboratory ideas and technology will not only widen the scope of practical utilization of expertise of our PhD scholars on market demand driven basis but also help the industrial field to better cope with the changing trends in the world. This will not only help in up grading the production capacity of the industries but also allow them to conceive new ideas related to technological requirements, have a testing facility at minimal possible cost and have greater opportunities in competing internationally.

MoST having immense potential in their respective fields shall transform their research and development work/ accomplishment into tangible output as prototype and viable industrial products by availing facilities and capabilities of SEC. MoST intends to provide technical support to SEC as per their requirements in areas such as technology up-gradation, development of electronic items like controls & cards, modernizing the aging machines, operational improvements of furnaces etc.

MoST and SEC will jointly look into the possibilities of capitalizing opportunities available under CPEC. “As the China Pakistan Economic Corridor will be a game changer not only for the two countries but also for the region at large. It is the foremost duty of every citizen of Pakistan to come forward and help set the nation towards the right path of progress and prosperity. In official capacity, the Ministry of science & Technology and Ministry of Industries & Production through their State Engineering Corporation have a vital role to play in the making of this historical development in Pakistan. I highly appreciate and look forward to a strong and active working partnership with the SEC,” said Rana Tanveer while expressing his views on the MoU signing ceremony.

Developing an active and smooth coordination among other Ministries is also essential and part of the MoU. The inter-ministerial coordination will help to ascertain areas where MoST and SEC can benefit and meet their needs in respect of up-gradation of their facilities and development of machinery, equipment and components etc.

STEDEC would identify market driven innovative products/ prototypes (developed /to be developed by R&D organizations of MoST), their feasibility studies, work out commercial plans and carry out their marketing; all in synergy and coordination with SMEDA for subsequently large scale production by SEC.
