President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the present government is paying due attention to provide health services to the people ofPakistan through several good initiatives such as the health card scheme, which are benefiting a large number of people. The President added that he firmly believed that the health sector will further improve in the future and the maximum number of people will be able to have access to health facilities.

President Mamnoon Hussain said this while inaugurating Pakistan’s first Children Eye Hospital during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Al-Shifa Trust at the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The President said that the establishment of Children Eye Hospital is a major development in the region, which will benefit not only Pakistan but also all regional countries and it will help in controlling eye diseases. President Mamnoon Hussain stressed that the establishment of this hospital was direly needed to protect newborn children in Pakistan from blindness at an early stage.

The President said that he was gratified at knowing that all hospitals of Al-Shifa Trust have lit the eyes of millions of blind people in the past 25 years and noted that over 75% of patients are given treatment free of cost for which this organization deserves accolades. The President paid glowing tributes to late Lieutenant General Jahandad Khan who founded the Al-Shifa Trust 25 years ago for serving the humanity.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that due to limited resources and Pakistan being a populous country, the number of people in the underdeveloped and far-flung areas of the country do not have access to health care facilities and are deprived of medical care. The President said that the society needs to lend a helping hand to the government in extending health facilities to the deprived segment of population. President Mamnoon Hussain lauded the invaluable services that Al-Shifa Trust and other similar charitable organisations are rendering and hoped that more people will follow in the footsteps of Al-Shifa trust and serve humanity.

The President said that the menace of corruption has eroded the foundations of the country and has prevented it from progressing and achieving prosperity. President Mamnoon Hussain urged the people to wage jihad against corruption and socially boycott the corrupt elements. The President expressed his confidence that with hardwork and honesty, Pakistan can prosper and realise the dreams of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

President Mamnoon Hussain urged the people to support the government in completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a landmark project and will transform the country into the most important country in the region. The President further said that on completion of the ongoing energy projects, the country will be rid of load shedding by 2018.

President Mamnoon Hussain reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and said that the Zarb-e-Azb operation will continue till elimination of the last terrorist. He called upon the people to fully support the Government and the Army to completely eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country.
