PR No.41 MINISTER OF STATE ENGR MUHAMMAD BALIGH UR REHMAN CHAIRED A MEETING REGARDING THE PROGRESS REPORT OF FEDERAL BOARD TVET AND NATIONAL TVET POLICY Islamabad: April 5, 2016

Minister was told about the progress regarding Federal Board TVET Policy. Consultation process with the stakeholders including Ministry, TEVTAs, BTEs/TTBs has been completed, Final Draft of the policy has been submitted to the Ministry along with the PC 1.

Skills are needed to increase productivity, enhance global competitiveness and contribute to national economic and social policies. Pakistan currently provides technical education to 1% of its population only, and rated at 133 out of 148 countries in terms of competitiveness.

Vision 2025 and current Government policy set priorities for development in Energy, security, Added-value production, infrastructure development and SME growth. Therefore there was a need of a National TVET policy. This policy will broadly impact TVET sector in Pakistan. It would bring reforms for TVET sector for next 10 years. And through this policy we will be able to achieve 1,000,000 publically funded CBT training places available annually, 250,000 apprenticeships available annually, 40% of TVET provided by the private sector, and 33% of overall federal education budget to TVET etc.

A small presentation was also given on the National Skill University by HEC to establish a skill university to monitor overall progress and situation of technical and vocational education in Pakistan. A monthly review meeting will be held at the ministry for this purpose.

Meeting was attended by the Secretary Federal Education, Additional secretary Federal Education, Chairman NAVTTC and other officials of the Ministry.
