PR No.243 Finance Minister Meets Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli Islamabad: March 26, 2016

Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Iranian Interior Minister, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli at a meeting here Saturday agreed to augment economic and trade cooperation between Pakistan and Iran while also focusing on efforts to promote investment activities.

Minister Dar and Minister Fazli are the co-chairs of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC). While welcoming the the Iranian Interior Minister, the Finance Minister said that he was pleased to receive him on the sidelines of the visit by Iranian President. He said the visit would set the momentum for Pak-Iran future cooperation.

Mr. Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on this occasion referred to the 19th Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meetings and emphasized follow up measures with regard to the decisions of the meetings. Both sides agreed to take necessary steps for implementation of the decisions taken at the 19th JEC. Minister Dar added that with the lifting of sanctions against Iran, the way had been paved to pursue the goal of mutual economic cooperation.

Minister Fazli invited the Finance Minister to visit Iran for holding the 20th Pak-Iran JEC meeting in July/ August 2016 in Tehran. Finance Minister accepted the invitation and hoped that the JEC will open new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

The Iranian Interior Minister said that both countries should strive to achieve higher economic and trade cooperation which was reflective of the depth of their overall friendly ties. Both sides also discussed prospects for investment in Pak-Iran border areas which they observed would promote economic development in these areas.

Mr. Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on this occasion commended Finance Minister’s efforts for improvement of Pakistan’s economy. He wished him (Finance Minister) all success in his endeavours.
