PR No.204 ICT Administration Seizes Today 2000 Kg Substandard Stinking Meat Islamabad

In the ongoing campaign against adulteration and substandard food in the federal capital, Islamabad administration today raided a recently established chiller/suspected slaughter house in the area of police station Noon and seized 2000 KG of substandard, unsafe, stinking and water infused meat that was brought to the place for its onwards distribution to the federal capital, Rawalpindi district and adjoining areas.

As per the report submitted to the Interior Minister’s office under whose direction the adulteration campaign has been launched, the action was taken on a tip off and after the Islamabad administration had verified this information that substandard meat was being brought and was further to be distributed from the suspected place. Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Dr. Hasan Waqar Cheema along with veterinary doctor and other concerned staff reached the spot and raided the vehicle that brought substandard and stinking meat reportedly from Jhang. After due inspection and declaration of the veterinary doctor regarding the meat being of extremely poor quality and unsafe for human consumption, 10 butchers and workers were taken into custody and unhygienic meat was confiscated and later destroyed as per the procedure. The place from where the meat was seized has been sealed and FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the law.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed while briefing the media about the raid reiterated the commitment of ICT administration to continue its campaign against those elements who are involved in adulteration and selling substandard food in the federal capital and said that the ICT administration looks forward to the inhabitants and especially the business community of the capital, being the major stakeholders, for maximum support in the ongoing campaign so as to make collective efforts for ensuring availability of safe and hygienic food in the capital.
