PR No.143 Pakistan Elected Vice Chair Of Unep Cpr Bureau Islamabad

At the opening Tuesday in Nairobi of the five-day Second Open Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR), a preliminary to the Second United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA II), the Permanent Representative (PR) of Pakistan to the United Nations Environment Programme, High Commissioner Mr. Raza Bashir Tarar, was unanimously elected as Vice Chair of the CPR Bureau from the Asia Pacific Group. Pakistan’s Mission in Nairobi is accredited as Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat).

During the course of the OECPR, the Permanent Representative, in his capacity as Vice Chair, will also chair negotiations on a cluster of resolutions expected to be tabled in UNEA II.

The election is recognition of Pakistan’s active role in the international discourse on environmental protection.
