PR No.199 Islamabad: March 23, 2016

The 76th National Day of Pakistan was held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels in a simple and dignified manner. All other activities in connection with the National Day celebration were cancelled due to the tragic terrorist attacks in Brussels on 22 March 2016, in which many precious lives were lost. A one minute silence was also observed to honour the victims of Brussels attacks, says a press release received here today from Brussels, Belgium.

The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran. Ms. Naghmana A. Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to the Kingdom of Belgium, European Union and Grand Duchy of Luxembourg performed the flag hoisting ceremony. The messages by the President and the Prime Minister on the National Day were read out at this occasion.

The National Day Reception was held earlier during the week in a local Hotel due to the upcoming Easter Holidays. A large number of Members of the European Parliament, Members of the Belgium Parliament, local dignitaries, Ambassadors, diplomats, members of think tanks, human rights organizations, media persons and Pakistani community attended.

An exhibition of cartoons by renowned Pakistani cartoonist Nigar Nazar and an exhibition of miniature Moghal art by Amin Chugtai were also displayed. The local Belgian artists mesmerized the audience by playing folk Pakistani tunes on traditional Pakistani musical instruments. The guests deeply appreciated the art work, music and traditional Pakistani cuisine served on the occasion.
