PR No.196 National Day Celebrations In Zimbabwe Islamabad: March 23, 2016

Today, the 76’” National Day celebrations were held in Harare with great enthusiasm and fervor. The flag hoisting ceremony was held in the morning at the Chancery. A good number of the Pakistani community representing all walks of life attended the ceremony. The ceremony began with the recitation from the Holy Quran, after which Ambassador Asaf Khan performed the flag hosting and read the messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, says a press release received here today from Harare, Zimbabwe.

The National Day Reception was arranged at Meikles Hotel on the same day to mark the occasion. A large number of guests including senior civil and military officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of International Organizations, prominent businessmen, media and members of the Pakistani community attended the reception. Deputy Foreign Minister Edgar Nyasha Mbwembwe represented the Government of Zimbabwe as the Chief Guest. His Worship Benard Gabriel Manyenyeni, Lord Mayor of Harare was also among the Zimbabwean high officials who attended the function.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Asaf Khan underscored the importance of 23rd March in the history of Pakistan, He said that it was an unfortunate reality that terrorism has affected all segments of the Pakistani society but Pakistan is determined to eradicate all forms of terrorism Pakistan is bound to emerge stronger from its predicament and the days to come will usher a new era of peace and prosperity.

While referring to Pak-Zimbabwe relations, the Ambassador said that Pakistan enjoys cordial relations with Zimbabwe dating back to the time of liberation struggle against the white minority Rhodesian regime. He mentioned the role of Pakistan Air Force in the establishment of the Air Force of Zimbabwe and said that Pakistan would continue to assist Zimbabwe.

In his address, Deputy Foreign Minister Edgar Nyasha Mbwembwe congratulated Pakistan on the occasion of celebration of National Day and expressed the desire of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe to further consolidate the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, He acknowledged Pakistan’s support to Zimbabwe in its liberation struggle and expressed good wishes for the leadership and people of Pakistan.
