PR No.189 Turkish Minister Of Economy Calls On The PM Islamabad, March 22, 2016

Turkish Minister of Economy, Mr. Mustafa Elita? called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House today.

Congratulating the Minister on his recent appointment as Minister for Economy, the Prime Minister expressed hope that Mr. Elitas’ visit would contribute substantially to promoting bilateral trade and economic ties between the two brotherly countries.

The Prime Minister said that the people and government of Pakistanare deeply saddened at the grievous losses Turkey has suffered from terrorism in the recent past. While reaffirming Pakistan’s strong solidarity with the people and government of Turkey, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif stated that terrorism is a common threat and must be combated with collective efforts. Fighting terrorism is not a choice, but it is imperative for us as well as the global community, stressed the Prime Minister. We have no doubt that the brotherly people of Turkey will decisively defeat the scourge of terrorism with their strong resolve and determination, expressed the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also appreciated the steadfast support that Pakistan has received from Turkey in Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism.

Highlighting the significance Pakistani and Turkish leadership’s shared vision of transforming the traditionally cordial bilateral ties into a robust economic partnership, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the growing Pakistan-Turkey economic collaboration. Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan and Turkeyis in final stages; Ministry of Commerce has been directed to complete negotiations by September this year, the Prime Minister said. Pakistan deeply appreciates Turkish Government’s efforts encouraging Turkish companies to participate in energy and infrastructure projects in Pakistan, said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister stated that Turkish support in energy, transportation, low-cost housing, and SME development in Province of Punjab is taking our relations to new heights.

Mr. Mustafa Elita? thanked the Prime Minister for reaffirmation of solidarity with the people and government of Turkey at this critical moment. The Turkish Minister for Economy said that there is significant potential for translating the traditional and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey into strong trade relationship. The Minister lauded various initiatives taken by the present government under the leadership of the Prime Minister for revival of the economy, infrastructure development and achieving energy self-sufficiency in the country, and improving the standard of living of the people.

The Turkish delegation included Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Sadik Babur Girgin, Deputy Undersecretary Mr. Husnu Dilemre, Advisor to Minister Mr. Ahmed Cuneyt Darein, Dy. Director General Mr. Mustafa Tuzeu, Advisor to Minister Mr. Ayhan Kiskak, Head of the Department Mr. Mehmet Haken Akgun, Mr. Askin Pekel and Mr. Ibrahim Aykut Araz, Experts and Mr. Murat Mustu, Attache. Federal Minister for Finance Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, Secretary to the Prime Minister Mr. Fawad Hasan Fawad and Consul General of Pakistan in Istannbul Dr. Yousaf Junaid were also present during the meeting.
