The High Commission for Pakistan in London hosted a reception in honour of Mr. Zameer Choudrey, Bestway Group Chief Executive, on award of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), by Her Majesty the Queen, on 09 March 2016. Mr Choudrey received the CBE as part of the Queen’s New Year 2016 Honours List in recognition of his contributions and services to the UK business and the wide array of philanthropic work both in the UK and abroad.
In his welcome remarks, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK extended warm felicitations to Mr. Zameer Chaudhry CBE, Sir Anwar Parvez and the Bestway Group, on this great honour. He said that we rejoice the well deserved conferment of award of CBE by Her Majesty the Queen on Mr Zameer Choudrey who is an outstanding British Pakistani businessman, philanthropist and an exceptional individual. The High Commissioner termed him a role model for people, especially the business community.
Speaking on the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UK, the High Commissioner quoted an excerpt from Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond’s statement made at Islamabad during his recent visit: “Pakistan matters greatly to the UK. Around 1.5 million people of Pakistani descent live in the UK. We have a shared history and cultural ties, and our futures are interlinked.” He said that we are proud and grateful to the Pakistani diaspora and their contribution in playing a role of bridge between our two In his brief remarks, Mr Zameer Choudrey termed his conferment of CBE from Her Majesty the Queen a privilege and honour. Speaking about equal opportunities in the UK, Mr. Choudrey said: “It really does not matter who you are and where you come from; what matters is work ethics and contribution to the society. This is ultimately recognized.” He said quality education and sustained hard work eventually pay and that is why he was striving to promote education in the UK as well as in Pakistan. Mr Choudrey thanked Sir Anwer Pervaiz and Board of Directors of Best Way Group for their continuous support to him.
Rt. Hon. Lord Andrew Feldman, Chairman Conservative Party, on this occasion, termed Mr. Choudrey an extraordinary citizen of the UK and a role model for the business community. He said the award of CBE is a wonderful honour for Mr. Choudrey and a brilliant success of the Pakistani diaspora. Lord Feldman appreciated Mr. Choudrey’s role in building bridges between Pakistan and the UK.
The reception was attended by cross-section of British and Pakistani community and local friends of Pakistan including Lord Nazir Ahmed, Lord Khalid Hamid Sheikh, Mr. Rehman Chishti MP and Khalid Mehmood MP, Rt Hon Sir Tony Baldry, and others.
