President Mamnoon Hussain has emphasized upon the crucial role of the universities in human resource development which ultimately contributes toward economic progress of the country adding that the government is laying great emphasis on promoting education in the country as a part of nation building efforts.
The President said this while talking to Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Wednesday.
The President said that the government was committed to promote higher education in the country. The President stated that education cannot be complete without character building of the younger generation and asked the HEC Chairman to further improve the standard of education across the country. Regarding security arrangements at higher learning institutions, the President directed the Chairman to coordinate and devise strategy in consultation with the management of universities and the provincial authorities.
Separately, Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Dr. M. Masoom Yasinzai called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. The President appreciated that the university is imparting quality education in contemporary disciplines besides offering courses in religious injunctions and Islamic jurisprudence to help build an Islamic society imbibed with tolerance and moderation.
In another meeting with Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, the President commended the services of Allama Iqbal Open University in catering to the educational needs of students living in far-flung areas who get their formal education while staying at home. The President said that distance learning programme by Allama Iqbal Open University in the country has removed the impediments that had deterred the accessibility to the basic right for education. The President hoped that the efforts of Allama Iqbal Open University will pay dividends in enhancing the literacy rate in Pakistan and generate skillful human resource that will play a crucial role in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
