PR No. 59 FEDERAL EDUCATION MINISTER APPRECIATES THE ROLE OF ISLAMIC UNIVERSITIES IN TEACHING ARABIC LANGUAGE Islamabad: March 7, 2017.

The International Islamic University (IIU) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) hosted a two-day International Conference on the “Role of Islamic Universities in Teaching Arabic to Non Native Speakers”. Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Engnr. Baligh-ur-Rehman was chief guest of the concluding ceremony of the Conference held here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister stressed social, economic and religious importance of Arabic Language for Muslim nations and praised the efforts of IIU for the promotion of Arabic Language training locally and internationally. Minister assured the participants that recommendations made in the conference for teaching Arabic Language in the country would be reviewed by the government and due consideration would be given to the ones meriting implementation. He observed the shortage of Arabic Language teachers in the country as one of the impediments in initiating Arabic language training across all educational institutions. The Minister informed participants that a legislation making the teaching of Quran with translation compulsory for Muslim students in both public and private schools was in final stages of approval.

Minster also apprised participants about the initiatives of the government for improving quality and infrastructure of educational institutions in the country. He also said that imparting technical and vocational education is among the top priorities of the government for which appropriate avenues and incentives have been created. He suggested that short Arabic language courses can be made part of the national vocational training programs which would benefit individuals proceeding to Middle East for employment.

The Conference that highlighted the importance and methodologies of teaching Arabic Language to non-native speakers attracted leading Academicians and Arabic Scholars from 14 Muslim Countries.
