Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Syed Murtaza Mehmood is on an official visit to Jakarta from 12-14 June 2022 to discuss industrial and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia. On 13 June 2022, he met with his Indonesian counterpart Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi and Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, says a press release received here on Monday.
While highlighting the strong historical and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Indonesia, the minister, in his meeting with Indonesian Minister of Industry, briefed him about Pakistan’s industrial sector and identified areas of potential collaboration between the two countries including SMEs, industrial joint ventures, non-traditional sectors, tourism and agriculture.
During his meeting with Indonesian Minister of Trade, the federal minister underlined Pakistan’s desire to further promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. He underscored the imbalance in trade between Pakistan and Indonesia and the need to work closely to take remedial measures in this regard. It was agreed that both sides will coordinate on ensuring steady import of palm oil from Indonesia.
During his meeting with Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs, Minister Mahmud highlighted the potential of investment in Pakistan in various sectors, opportunities emerging from SEZs of CPEC and invited the Indonesian businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in Pakistan.
