Federal Minister for Climate Change   Zahid Hamid Chaired an interprovincial and inter-departmental meeting on spring plantation campaign 2017.

Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid appreciated the efforts of all provinces, federating units and public and private sector organizations for plantation in 2016.He also announced that Spring plantation campaign 2017 will be inaugurated on 9th February, 2017 countrywide. He also informed the participants that National Forest Policy has been approved by Council of Common Interest. It has been formulated by the support of all provinces. The Plantation campaign 2017 will be implemented keeping in view the new forest policy and Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Program

Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change and Green Pakistan Program Mr. Syed Rizwan Mehboob informed the participants that Green Pakistan Program is in its final phase of releasing funds to provinces and federating units. He also highlighted that planning commission has instructed to plant 20 % of trees in educational institutions and involve elected representatives in spring plantation campaign 2017. He also told the participant that awareness and monitoring mechanism would also be emphasized in Spring Plantation Campaign 2017.

Federal Minister was briefed about planation targets set and achieved in 2016. Punjab Forest Department set target of 9 million trees and progress rate of Punjab is 13.9 million. Sindh Forest Department informed that they set target of 10 million  and achieved 7.2 million. Khyber Pukhtoon Khawa Forest Department told the audience that target set was 70 million and they achieved 83% of set target. The Baluchistan Forest 0.7 million and achieved 0.28 million. The Forest department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir highlighted that department informed that they set target of I million and achieved 0.958 million. The forest Department of Gilgit Baltistan highlighted that they set target of 1 million. The Forest Department of FATA set target of 0.86 million and achieved 3.115 million.The representatives of National Highway Authority, Ministry of Defense, Heavy Industry Texila, International Union of Conservation of Nature, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Kamra Air Base and Capital Development Authority also informed about their plantation achievements in 2016.

The Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Climate Change and Green Pakistan program Mr. Syed Rizwan Mehboob, Federal Secretary Ministry of Climate Change Syed Ahmed Abu Akif, Inspector General Forests Mr. Syed Mehboob Nasir and forest officers of Federal, Provincial Departments, National Highway Authority, IUCN, Ministry of Defense, CDA attended the meeting.
