PR No. 125 PM Congratulates Sharmeen Chinoy Islamabad

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has congratulated Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy on the nomination of her film, “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” for an Academy Award. The Prime Minister said that honour killings, the theme of the film, afflict several segments of the Pakistani society. The Prime Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to rid Pakistan of this evil by bringing in appropriate legislation. He said that Ms Chinoy’s insights could prove very useful in this connection. The Prime Minister has invited Ms Chinoy to the Prime Minister’s House for the first screening of her film. The country’s leading opinion makers from different segments of society, academics, and intellectuals will also be invited to the screening.
