Ministry of Human rights in collaboration with Aurat Foundation conducted two days capacity building training workshop of prosecutors and court officials in Islamabad under the project “Devising and Putting Forth Women Centered laws and Capacity Building of Prosecutors and Court Officials” of gender equality program.

This workshop was attended by Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Secretary Ministry of Human Rights, Miss Humera Azam khan, joint Secretary Ministry of Human Rights and Miss Mahpara Shakil Ghauri, Deputy Chief of Party Aurat Foundation. Besides different legal advisors and prosecutors were also presented on this occasion. The purpose of this workshop was not only to highlight the productive role of women in society but also to train the prosecutors and legal advisors about the handling of different cases related to women abuse and violence. Legal advisors also guided the participants about the legal mechanism and procedure followed in Pakistan while handing cases related to women rights.

On this occasion, Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Sectary Ministry of Human Rights expressed her feelings about the dire need of addressing women issues as they comprise 50% of population. She emphasized on the public private partnership in order to accomplish human rights agenda in Pakistan. She expressed that Ministry of Human Rights is always active and determine to address different violence issues at every corner of country. She added that our religion also guarantees the rights of women and gives them respect and reverence but to ensure the protection of women rights, education is very impetrative and the real purpose of this workshop is also to train women, prosecutors, legal advisors and policy makers by giving them a platform to find out the ways and possibilities to hand the issues related to women rights. She expressed that we are aware of the importance of women rights and Ministry of Human Rights would continue such endeavors by joining hands with different stakeholders of society. She appreciated the efforts of Aurat Foundation to take this initiative in this regard.

Miss Humera Azam khan, joint secretary Ministry of Human Rights shared about the distinct features of this workshop organized under the gender equality program and shed light that this workshop has potential for women, prosecutors and policy makers to respond towards violence issues. She added that the Ministry would conduct 12 capacity building workshops in different selected districts of Pakistan. For this purpose, Ministry of Human Rights has collaborated with legislators and legal advisors, to foster public awareness about human rights. Miss Mahpara Shakil Ghauri, Deputy Chief of party Aurat Foundation shared that a fruitful collaboration of Government and civil society is required to advocate the rights of women and now it is essential to fill this gap by providing multiple platforms to these stakeholders and this initiative is a step of this series. She further added that consistent joint efforts are required to harmonize the concerned segments of society. At the end, various legal experts shared thought provoking ideas and guided the participants about legal procedures followed in Pakistan for such cases. All guest speakers responded to queries raised by participants.
