Mr. Rizwan Ahmed, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Chairman Infofish addressed the 34th Virtual meeting of Technical Advisory Board (TAB). He highlighted the significance of abundant resource of fish — blessed by nature for the use of humanity, however, nearly 90 percent of global fish stocks are either fully fished or overfished, as per the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Since 1987, it is an Intergovernmental Organization providing marketing information and technical advisory services to the fishery industry of the Asia-Pacific region and beyond from its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Twelve countries are currently members of INFOFISH, which are Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Its activities include bringing buyers and sellers together, the publication of current and long-term marketing information and operation of technical advisory and specialized services. In addition to organizing exhibitions, conferences, workshops, seminars and training programs, INFOFISH undertakes consultancies on all aspects of fisheries - pre-harvest, harvest, and post-harvest Chairman Infofish assured continued support to the member countries in the development of fisheries sector from the forum of INFOFISH and hoped that the region will get maximum benefit from INFOFISH, which will ultimately result into development of fisheries sector in the region. Technical Advisory Board meeting was attended by 11 countries (Pakistan, Srilanka, Thailand, Philippine, Bangladesh, Fiji, Malaysia, Maldives, Salmon Island, and Papua New Guinea) participated along with observers (World Fish Center, NACA and FAO).
