Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam addressed Conference on “Economic Growth in Testing Times: Reshaping the Future of Pakistan” organized by CEO Club. The event was attended by federal ministers, diplomats and policy makers. Fakhar Imam said that for sustainable growth in agriculture, it is imperative to provide a conducive environment for farm investment and to have a continuous stream of new technologies, techniques and innovations which will require adequate investment in research and development activities. Regular monitoring of developments and analysis of emerging issues will need development of indigenous institutional capacity to provide policy guidelines. A pragmatic approach based on ground realities rather than a dogmatic one is the need of the hour. Federal Minister for National Food and Security Syed Fakhar Imam said that the present government has already focused on livestock to ensure food security and alleviate poverty particularly from rural settings. To this end, Pakistan has planned to improve animal genetic production potential through artificial insemination and to meet SPS requirements. We have approved national disease surveillance and control system and also piloting animal identification and traceability system on limited scale. I am sure we will hit the target in due course of time and Pakistan will be one of those countries who are meeting the international requirements for export of animal products to high end markets as well.
