PR No. 85 Minister Of State For Federal Education And Professional Training Engr Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman Chaired The 14th Board Meeting Of NAVTTC (National Vocational And Technical Training) Today Islamabad

Minister of State welcomed the new board members and said that we are hoping for great results under the guidance of Zulfiqar Cheema as an Executive Director of NAVTTC. He said that we are way behind in TVET education as compare to other countries, so we need to work very hard on this sector. He further added that we should introduce demand driven courses without ignoring the supply side. I am a great proponent of Public-Private partnership as it reduces the cost of business while improving the efficiency, so we should include private sector in this as well, said the State Minister.

Our government has given the first TVET policy in just two and half years of its term, stated the minister. We have introduced Competency Based Training and Recognition Prior Learning in that policy. We have also introduced the NVQF (National Vocational Qualification Framework). Talking about the technical industrial apprenticeship program, Minister of State said that we have proposed some amendments in Apprenticeship Act of 1962. For example, we have proposed that 50% of the minimum wage should be given to an intern/apprentice as a monthly salary. Education is a devolved subject so we would be implementing all these amendments in the capital territory only after getting its approval.

We should create synergies and join hands to work for the excellence, said the minister. He added that we are turning NISTE (National Institute of Science and Technical education) into a technical university very soon.

Executive Director NAVTTC briefed the minister about the ongoing and future projects/workings of the NAVTTC. He told him about the establishment of the job placement center in NAVTTC. He further added that as per the direction of honorable minister the quantity and quality of trainings have been improved over the period of time. Now NAVTTC is conducting trainings through better institutes and doing monitoring in an improved manner as well. Moreover skill competition, job fairs, skill counseling and apprenticeship program etc. have also been started.

Chairman NAVTTC concluded and gave the vote of thanks in the end.

Meeting was attended by the chairman NAVTTC, Executive Director NAVTTC, and all the board members of NAVTTC.
