MEETING OF THE HEADS OF DELEGATIONS OF THE SCO AND CSTO ON “OUTREACH ON AFGHANISTAN”, DUSHANBE, 17 SEPTEMBER 2021

Prime Minister Imran Khan participated in meeting of the Heads of Delegations of the Joint SCO-CSTO on “Outreach on Afghanistan”, held in Dushanbe on 17 September 2021. The Prime Minister delivered a statement outlining Pakistan’s perspective on various dimensions of the situation in Afghanistan. The Prime Minister highlighted that after 40 years of conflict and instability, there was a possibility of finally ending the war and establishing sustainable peace in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan underlined that the two most urgent and formidable challenges facing Afghanistan were the impending humanitarian crisis and a possible economic meltdown. In this regard, the Prime Minister emphasized that the international community must reach out and extend sustained international humanitarian assistance and economic support to the Afghan people. Reflecting on Pakistan’s policy on Afghanistan, the Prime Minister remarked that Pakistan had remained constructively engaged by keeping borders open to facilitate regular movement, and bilateral as well as transit trade. Pakistan had also dispatched several planes-load of food and medicines to help address the humanitarian needs. The Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s firm commitment to a stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan, at peace with itself and its neighbors.
