The Defence and Martyrs Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (06 September) was celebrated at the High Commission for Pakistan in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, with traditional zeal, enthusiasm and patriotism. A large number of Pakistani Community members including families, children and their Tanzanian friends attended the commemorative function in high spirits, says a press release received here today from Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. Mr. Muhammad Saleem, High Commissioner, read out the Special Messages of the President and the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the occasion. In his remarks, Mr. Saleem paid rich tribute to the Shuhuda, Ghazis and National Heroes of the 1965 war. He highlighted the sacrifices of the entire nation, the officers, soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in the defence of the motherland. He said that the spirit of September 1965 was alive in the hearts and minds of every Pakistani today whether living in or outside the country to defend Pakistan against any evil designs of the adversary. The High Commissioner also paid tribute to Late Syed Ali Shah Geelani Shaheed who died while facing months long house arrest in Srinagar in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) very recently on September 01, 2021. Mr. Saleem briefed the participants about the ongoing aggression by Indian occupation forces including continued military siege, torture, human rights violations, lockdown and even denying the right of funeral and burial for Geelani Shaheed’s family and followers in IIOJ&K. He reiterated that Pakistan will continue with its unflinching support to the People of IIOJ&K in their just struggle for achieving their right to self-determination in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The High Commissioner thanked the patriotic Diaspora in Tanzania for their love for Pakistan as also their invaluable contribution to strengthening relations between the two friendly countries.
