The Chairman OPF Board of Governors Barrister Amjad Malik called upon Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Micheal at Ministry of Human Rights. The meeting was also attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Law and Justice Mr. Zafarullah Khan, Barrister-at-Law.

The Chairman informed the honourable Minister and Special Assistant about the progress of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation and its number of new initiatives for welfare of expatriates and their dependents including provision of financial assistance of PKR 800 million under its social welfare program, provision of ambulance service for 672 dead bodies transport in current year, launching of twenty four hours toll free helpline, provision of financial assistance in case of death/disability within one month. Further, The Chairman highlighted that the overall governing board of OPF has met eight times this year to review progress and provide timely strategic direction. The Chairman also lauded the dead body air travel which is provided free of cost by PIA for overseas Pakistani’s.

The Federal Minister Human Rights highlighted that the ministry is introducing a mobile rescue mobile application. Considering the valuable and considerate ambulance service by OPF the Minister offered to provide 10 to 12 ambulances for transport of dead bodies. The OPF and Ministry of Human Rights will also consider entering into a MoU for the provision of rights for the overseas Pakistani’s. Further, the Minister highlighted the initiation of federal and provincial task forces for Human Rights after eighteenth constitutional amendment. The legal aspects of encroachment on overseas Pakistanis properties was also discussed in detail.

The Minister was invited by the Chairman to attend the Overseas Pakistani convention on 27thDecember 2017 at Islamabad.

The Chairman OPF will present a paper on Human Rights and Overseas Pakistanis in the Human Rights conference which is scheduled for 3rd week of November 2017 in Islamabad.

The Minister Human Rights and Chairman OPF will also make a monitoring and information gathering visit airport to meet Pakistani’s living overseas to gather first-hand information about their issues and problems for provision of effective services.
