President Mamnoon Hussain has said that big corporations and organizations should patronize different sports in Pakistan so that popular sports of the country could flourish and our young players could bring laurels for their country without getting worried about financial issues.

The President said this while addressing the Prize Distribution Ceremony of 31st President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship in Islamabad on Friday. Governor Gilgit Baltistan Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan, diplomats, senior officials and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The President noted that in the past when institutions patronized the sports Pakistan had distinctive place in the world of sports but afterwards with waning support of these institutions we gradually started lagging behind in the realm of sports.

President Mamnoon Hussain said that he accords equal importance to sports like other sectors of life adding that if importance had been given to sports in the country then the youth would not have inclined toward extremism due to availability of healthy activities and would have rendered their energies for the progress of the country. The President called for promoting sports at institutional level for providing healthy activities to the youth. He stated that like other fields of life sports carry an extraordinary importance which produces sportsman spirit and discipline in nations. The President said that sports activities inculcate such training at an early age with which the youth can learn the art of meaningful and goal oriented life.

The President said that he was delighted to participate in the ceremony and appreciated all the players on the occasion. The President noted that like other sports popularity of Golf was increasing in the country and hoped that golf players would earn distinction for the country at international level. The President expressed his best wishes for Islamabad Golf Club and Pakistan Golf Federation.

The President also distributed prizes amongst players who displayed distinctive performance in the tournament.
