Permanent Representative of Pakistan to United Nations Dr. Maleeha Lodhi called on Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal here today. They discussed host of issues. Ahsan Iqbal particularly briefed about the various measures taken in the education sector and the progress made on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country. He stated, “We are working pro-actively on SDGs. Pakistan is the first country to localize SDGs by considering them as national development goals. We have been working on SDGs for the sake of our own. The Minister said that SDGs are well-aligned with Vision-2025 because its every pillar is linked with SDGs. Ahsan Iqbal also briefed about US-Pak Knowledge Corridor to have 10,000 Phds in next ten years for faculty needs of Pakistani universities. Minister said that knowledge corridor can be a game-changer in education sector. Minister also emphasized upon the need of developing strategic human resource for key strategic areas, where country faces dearth.

Dr. Maleeha Lodhi appreciated the steps taken by government for localization of SDGs and said that her office would keep in touch Ministry of Planning, Development & Reform for implementation of SDGs. She also appreciated initiative of Minister Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal for establishment of US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor and said that it would go a long way in making substantive change in Pakistan’s education sector.
